Fency Night Devlog #1: Player experience overhaul
Hello, fellow gamers and developers! I'm excited to share the latest updates on my spoopy game, Fency Night, which I created during the Godot Wild Jam #74. While the initial release had its charm, I quickly realized that several gameplay issues prevented players from fully enjoying the experience. After receiving valuable feedback and spending some time refining the game, I’m thrilled to announce a release which addresses many of these concerns.
What’s New
- Various Fixes: This update addresses several critical bugs that affected gameplay:
- Infinite Sliding: Players will no longer slide infinitely when performing an action.
- Repair Time Reset: Players can no longer reset the time for repairing a fence unintentionally.
- Consistent Difficulty: When players press "Try Again," they will now start a new game with the same difficulty as the first attempt. Previously, this could lead to a scenario where nothing happened, which was frustrating and detracted from the experience.
- Jack-o'-Lantern Functionality: Players can no longer light a jack-o'-lantern without their personal lantern.
- Fence Break Overlay: To improve clarity during gameplay, I’ve added a visual overlay that appears when a fence is broken. This feedback helps players understand where the action happens.
- Scores and Leaderboards: To add a competitive edge and encourage replayability, I've implemented a scoring system and leaderboards. Players can now compete for high scores, adding a fun challenge to the experience.
- Animations for Actions: I've added animations to various actions, making gameplay more immersive and visually appealing. These animations help convey actions more clearly and add to the overall atmosphere of the game.
- Revised Field Layout: I've reworked the field layout to make the gameplay more interesting. By changing the arrangement of elements, I've created new challenges and strategic opportunities for players, enhancing the overall challenge and excitement.
Looking Ahead: Future Updates
I’m committed to improving Fency Night and making it accessible to a broader audience. In the next update, I plan to focus on:
- Accessibility Settings: I want to ensure that everyone can enjoy the game, so I’ll be implementing various accessibility options to cater to different player needs.
- Localization: To reach more players around the world, I’ll be adding localization support.
Closing Thoughts
I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who played Fency Night and provided feedback. I’m excited about the changes made in this update and look forward to reading your comments on these improvements.
Than you for reading, and happy halloween!
